New Tune Tuesday

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014

Today’s New Tune Tuesday is a remix from Caked Up that I found on SoundCloud. If you don’t know what SoundCloud is then go look it up right now, it will change your life. I have a thing for good remixes and mashups and I have found SO MANY great songs from SoundCloud. Add to the fact that making an account is free, you can download the app and listen to all the same music on your phone for free, and you can make playlists to organize the songs you like the most. It’s just fantastic! (No, nobody is paying me to say all this haha.)

Anyway, back to the song. My husband introduced this one to me and I just can’t stop listening. The beat is incredible. This of course lead me to investigate Caked Up on SoundCloud and I was pleasantly surprised to find more remixes that I love. I even liked the one with Wrecking Ball which surprised me the most considering I can’t stand the original song. I’m so excited I can listen to this right on my phone from the app and it will definitely be a song I blast LOUDLY with the windows down during my road trip to MD next month as well as playing this at pre-gaming evenings with my friends back up at school πŸ˜‰ !

Day 25: A song you could listen to all day without getting tired of.

Friday, January 31st, 2014

This song is a classic in my iTunes library. Without a doubt this song is played at every party I go to (and that’s not just because 9 times out of 10 I’m the one controlling the music). It is a favorite among ALL my friends (yes including my preschool friends; I once spent an entire summer playing this during preschool summer camp and learned how to “shuffle” from a then 6 year old). My best friend’s boyfriend created a dance to this song and sure enough, at my wedding, this was the first song played (after our first dance) and all my college friends gathered around and performed the dance together in front of all my family members and other friends. It was quite hilarious as nobody else knew what was going on, but we didn’t let that stop us.

As the lyrics say… We just wanna see you shake that πŸ™‚

Day 16: A song that has made you cry.

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

The first time I heard this song was last spring while I was finishing up my last semester in college. I was preparing myself for all the excitement of Summer 2013 and for moving far away from all my family and friends when I heard it, and it really hit home. Because I could feel for the girl in the song, wanting the time to go faster so she could be married and so she could have a bigger house and kids, but at the same time (which is what made me cry) I could really feel for the person telling the girl to slow down and that while she’s very excited to move ahead to the next life goal, she will in fact miss this time. I spent half of my time wishing Andrew could come back home from Florida and I spent the other half wishing I could jump ahead to July when I got to finally move out of Maryland.

But right now, in this moment, although I love my husband dearly and I’m treasuring this time alone with him in Florida, I would give anything to make that time when I was just a silly college sorority girl come back and slow down. One more car ride with my sisters, one more fraternity party, one more spontaneous dance party with my roommates, one more work day where I got to spend the day playing with my preschool babies. Because now, on the other side of it all, you’re supposed to be a grown up, and let’s all be serious here. Growing up and being an adult sucks.Β

I’m lucky I get to go home to MD this weekend. I’m lucky I get to spend the time with my parents, fooling around with the little girls I used to nanny, seeing everyone in the town where I grew up. And you better believe I’m going to take advantage of every moment. The 32 degree coldness, the giggles, the hugs and cuddles, the car rides, the music that will be shared, everything. Because after this weekend I won’t be able to come back until March, so I’m going to savor every minute. This weekend is the perfect time to live in the moment πŸ™‚

Day 14: A song that reminds you of your boyfriend.

**Or husband in this case.

A few years ago when this song came out (wow this came out in 2011?) my husband (he was my fiancΓ© back then) put this on my Facebook page and we had a dance party over Skype together while we listened to it. I was living in Maryland and he was already stationed in Florida so it was nice to have this little moment together over Skype. This song always reminds me of that time, dancing in my dorm room at school, while he was in his tiny room on base very far away.

Day 7: A song that reminds you of the past summer.

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

This song screams Summer 2013 to me. Countless of things happened this summer that were adventurous and this song kept me in an upbeat mood the whole time. I started the summer by going to Sunset Beach, NC over Memorial Day week just like we did in 2012, but with more people this time. It was quite a week! Then, I had my bachelorette party in June followed by my beautiful wedding two weeks later. Then, after a magical time in Maui, Hawaii over 4th of July week, I packed everything up and moved to a different state, and had to adjust to living there. Then I finished up the summer with my 22nd birthday and went to Walt Disney World for the first time with my mom! There were so many adventures and this song reminds me of these wonderful memories πŸ™‚

Day 5: A song that is often stuck in your head.

Sunday, January 5th, 2014

I think this song would change depending on what “set” of songs I’m listening to. I break up my songs on my iPod depending on what season I’m in. This way I can keep the most up to date songs separate from the oldies. Often I make mixed playlists but right now I’m listening to a Winter 2013/14 playlist and this is the one that keeps playing over and over in my head. I am considering this my guilty pleasure song, since it’s Miley and I, among millions of other people, have been avoiding her since she went all crazy. But I got it stuck in my head after listening to it for the first time and secretly bought it a few weeks ago… until it accidentally came up next on my playlist in the radio on my car and my husband was outraged “IS THIS MILEY!!!” and now I listen to it while I’m in the shower πŸ˜€ Also, I can get him to leave a room very fast if I just turn it on my iPhone lol
